Does racism REALLY still exist in the MODELING industry?

I LOVE Tyra Banks and Iman, and all the other successful African-American models, but they always mention that modeling was hard, and still is hard bacause the color of your skin...but I don't totally agree. There are plenty of INTERNATIONAL models...I don't see what they're talking about, some just get the door slammed in their face because they're NOT what they're looking for, not because of skin color, why don't they consider THAT, instead of going straight with a NEGATIVE response? Do you think it really ever DID exist in the modeling industry?

Does racism REALLY still exist in the MODELING industry?
Racism still exists in almost every facet of life! You have to realize international and African American are two different things. And in alot of cases the more European your features the more easily you are accepted. If you pay attention the black women who are considered to be the most beautiful are lighter complected with finer features.

Also in the past it was even MORE prevelent. Then there would never have been a black face on the cover of any magazine that was not specifically for African Americans or modeling for things like Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren.

We have to stop pretending that we live in a color blind world because we don't. and the only way to fix that is to acknowledge the fact and try to continue to move forward.

************ EDITED TO ADD I wasn't referring to you in particular re: color blind. There's alot of people will try to say that racism doesn't exista nymore period that's what I was referring too! :)
Reply:in a way it does
Reply:Of course. Didn't you see ANTM when the girls when to some European country..Paris I think and did a photo shoots with the male models there. Remember that one guy refused to kiss the black girl because she was black. He said it plain and simple.

She went crying to Tyra and Tyra told her of her own battles with racism?

Yes, it exists but one must persevere in spite of it.
Reply:If racism is everywhere else, I don't see why the modeling industry would be any different.
Reply:racism still exists everywhere in all different forms, in any business, maybe you should open your eyes and ears because you only see and hear what you want to and you will never know what its like unless you have been in their shoes
Reply:I'm not qualified to say whether racism exists in the modeling industry or not, but what I can say is that if modeling doesn't work out for you then why complain about racism? America still has incredible opportunity in other fields whether you're black or not.
Reply:I think its depends on the skin color of a black person. Light skin or dark. The white agents want the light skin blacks because they already have the tan the white girls want. And the dark girls for exotic modeling.
Reply:hey, it could be true. you don't wear the same shoes as they do. don't just pick and go at it there. you haven't been backstage behind the glitz and the glamour.
Reply:It will always exist in the minds of fools.Next we'll here about racist Whitey holding back a Black athlete, even though we know most sports teams have only a token Whitey these days.
Reply:what?!? so you are telling me that there was never racism in the modeling industry?? Sorry but you seem as dumb as a rock or really naive.
Reply:if you call a model a heroin addict that is good right
Reply:i totally agree. i mean, sometimes an ad requires a black person, and sometimes it requires a white person.

sometimes indian, or asian, or latina...

if i walked into a modeling job that was looking for black people, the door would be slammed in my face too! and why? because of my skin color!

i think that racism does NOT exist in the modeling industry! not one bit!
