Why is there an issue between black women and light-skinned black women in the media?

why is there some resentment from some black women and others about light-skinned black women in the entertainment industry? I was discussing some entertainers and what not i.e. Alicia Keys, and one of my black friends wasn't into her because she thought she was "just another light-skinned black girl". Why does this mentality exist?

Why is there an issue between black women and light-skinned black women in the media?
This always makes me so sad. I come from a place too where a woman's attractiveness can, literally, be measured by her skin color in proportion to the color of a paper bag, or the width of her nose. One would think that it's an outdated discussion. But I can assure people it's alive and well...the subtle message of the promotion of the Beyonces and Halle Berrys of the world can very well be "Light is right" for the girls with dark skin, nappy hair and wide noses who you don't see reflected in magazines or movie casting. The internalized self-hatred exists, and it's awful.

Personally, I think it exists because the power centre of the beauty industry is based in the West, and the majority of stakeholders in that industry are Caucasian. Thus the beauty standard reflects its creators, and the American beauty standard does not approve of women who look too African. And black women get the message: the lighter-skinned the better. This is not a new belief but the media manifestation of it is symptomatic.

For instance, what model usually illustrates the "makeup look of the month" in magazines? It's almost never a dark-skinned woman with short hair; it's usually a pale beauty with red or blonde hair. I've heard the response that makeup shows up better on lighter people in photos; then again, why is that? Makeup can be made to contrast better on dark skin...but cosmetics like that are considered niche brands.

And you will never see a runway full of darker-skinned women unless it's for an "urban" brand."

This is where we delve into what I see as the core of feminism: the cessation of self-hatred for not being up to the standard of an anonymous male (or an industry that's trying to make you into their middle-aged boss's fantasy) and the embracing of yourself. Unfortunately, that struggle isn't limited to black women; any woman who wakes up disgusted with herself because she's not thin enough at 5'2 and 105lbs, or tall enough, tan enough, etc. is dealing with the effects of internalizing that criticism.

So this is in no way, shape or form supposed to be construed as a bashing of Caucasian women. All women are beautiful in their own special ways. And white women are NOT in a conspiracy to marginalize women of color. But the pattern still exists in pop culture, albeit in slightly smaller proportions than it did 20 years ago. And I think we have to look at media providers and casting directors when wondering why.
Reply:May be she is the only one with this kind of problem, I never heard of such a thing before.
Reply:That's so stupid it's almost funny. I thought bickering over black and white was silly, but now they're actually making sub-categories per 'color'. I think some people really are just too stupid to think up any better criticism and blame skin color, or in this case, the tone of a certain skin color. I have actually heard of this before.
Reply:There is none that I can see. That exists in the minds of certain people, I think.
Reply:this happens a lot in latino circles as well. personally, i think it is silly because beauty is beauty and it is all about preferences. they are probably just irritated because it is usually the lighter ones who get hooked up more easily when it comes to careers and men. lot of black girls like the lighter finer featured black men too so you would think they would understand.
Reply:I think because some people need to be able to define a standard to feel important because they are too insecure with their own individuality. That way they can judge people based on that weither it be race, fashion, behavior, status or whatever. Then they can dillude themselves into thinking that as long as they meet the standards in their mind they are 'safe' or worthy enough of importance because they are too insecure to stand on their own and respect other people's individuality.

Given your example seems to fall into the racist category. Saying someone is too white to be worthy of listening to is like saying back in the day that someone is too black to own land, or go to school. Same prejudice, different context.
Reply:Because dark-skinned black women are not very successful in the entertainment industry these days. They are not seeked out for modeling or acting as much as the lighter ones who look more generic.
Reply:I have never heard anything like that in all of the days I have been a black girl. That's isolated ignorance.
Reply:I agree with DD.
Reply:its called colorism and it goes all the way back to the days of slavery

where light skinned blacks were treated better and picked to work inside

For some reason people think that the "whitter" the better

I mean the closest you can get to looking white or mixed.

example- light skin, narrow nose, long curly/straight soft hair, light eyes ect..

So the blacks who have those features are generally treated better by ppl of other races and even by other blacks

they get better jobs and get more attention in the media

what I've noticed is that as a backlash, people of darker skin who are pissed off about this start to group every light skinned person as being just a trend and arrogant

So you're friend might just be pissed off and think that Alicia keys gets all this praise b/c he's light

like if she was darker or wasn't mixed with still the same voice would she be getting as much praise in the media?

honestly I don't really think so

How do I enter the music business?

I have been dreaming of becoming professional singer ever since I can remember. This is my bigest desire and I know I have what it takes [talent, drive, "thick skin"] to make it in the industry. I already know about recording a demo but that's out of the question right now... Does anyone have any ideas for me to get started in the business?

Please and thanks.

How do I enter the music business?
i think its mostly where u live, for example take Ciara, she lives in Atlanta which is a hot music scene for hip hop and r %26amp;b, she cant sing, so if she lived anywhere else she would have never made it in the music industry.Atlanta has hook-ups.
Reply:The only thing I can think of is being a music intern.

What is the link between Coco Chanel, tanning, & the changing structure of industry in the UK & other MEDCs?

tanning (skin tanning/colour change)

this is to do with Geography work to help with understanding the development of industries

does anybody know the link between the three?

thanks x

What is the link between Coco Chanel, tanning, %26amp; the changing structure of industry in the UK %26amp; other MEDCs?
Change is the clue here. Colour change from tanning, sea change in UK industry and plus ca change, plus l'est la meme chose from Coco.

What can be done about Australia's rabbit population?

I read in the 19th Century they introduced Rabbits and they slowly took over without predators, now they are pests, and ought to be gotten rid of for not being endemic....

What I'd do is hire thopusands of professional hunters and trappers, and provide them around the clock with butchers and freezer trucks, and then just let them hunt rabbits night and day and then sell dressed rabbits to starving Indian and Indonesian Villagers for almost nothing, and provide rabbit skins to the fur industry, until they got every rabbit...That would not be so hard, yes%26gt;?

What can be done about Australia's rabbit population?
BIRTH CONTROL
Reply:I would breed kangaroos that eat rabbits.
Reply:In many parts of Australia it is hard to find a rabbit, their effects are largely historical. Diseases were the most effective agents used. Hunting seldom works since the hunters always leave for a better area before they kill all of the rabbits in an area.
Reply:They need to introduce rabbit meat as a healthy food ,they contain no cholesterol and they are lean and tasty to eat!
Reply:Sounds like a plan to me. I like a bit of rabbit now and then.
Reply:take coyotes now to take care of the rabbits.

Does anyone know a good CRM for web design / SEO? Preferably one we can resell?

Yikes - the company who built our database has NO support. I am wondering if any of you out there know of a CRM that will do the following:

1. allow us to create custom fields or tabs in the database

2. schedule email campaigns. i would like to have HTML emails, where I can populate in certain fields like name and price of quote, etc.

3. schedule reminders/calls

4. autogenerate website forms, which when filled out, that information automatically populates in the database.

5. we would like to also customize for other industries and resell by building the "skin" without having to know programming.

If any of you have suggestions we would greatly appreciate it!!!

Does anyone know a good CRM for web design / SEO? Preferably one we can resell?
The closest thing is sugarCRM.

1. There are plugins/addons that allow you to add custom fields/tabs.

2. Email scheduling is in by default and there is loads of synching to external tools.

3. Reminders/calls are built in

4. I think, but not sure there is a form builder component

5. There is a template system, but i've not looked into how 'skinnable' or removed from the code it is.
Reply:1) What database? If it's MySQL, run phpMyAdmin. Of course you'd have to actually know how to design and manage a database. And a little familiarity with SQL would help.

2) It would probably have to be custom-written.

3) See #2.

4) Autogenerate? Computers might be that good in a few hundred years - today you'll need someone to ... oh, see #2.

5) SOMEONE will have to "know programming" - someone in your company or someone in the company you hire. Programming doesn't "get done" - someone - who "knows programming" has to do it.

Is there a site or program that will allow you to do all that without knowing programming? No, you'd have to - er - program one. Programs that write programs usually produce garbage that doesn't really meet the need, is almost impossible to maintain and is more expensive to modify than it would have cost to hire an experienced programmer in the first place.

How can I get my book about "A truthful life story of a genuinely talented performer" on the market?

The genuinely talented are not the majority of talents the public sees on TV, Film, Music, Modeling, or as a Musican. The US entertainment industries are not based on talent. There are many discriminations that exist and they aint just skin color! As you can see the industry thrives on dollars $$$ and will market only those individuals who has $$$ and can maintain such a financial market for themselves even if they have only 10% talent. There are so many Talented Painters, Artist, Singers, Dancers, Models, etc. who will not reach their goals in entertainment and the public should have some insight as to who they are. Not just the ones who are unfortuantely murdered. Lastly, the genuinely talented should know the reality of being in such industries and plan their Plan B and Plan C careers accordingly; as shown in "20 Years Knocking" Critical Tips for Talented Teens and Young Adults entering the Entertainment Industries. Book is for sale on www.EntertainmentIndustry.biz Thanks

you have to just keep visiting publishing companies and meeting with reps to get it published...you should sign with an agent, they know exactly what steps to take

Why are there only light skinned black girls in the music industry/music videos?

all you see these days are just light skinned black people on the media today all the videos ,avrything not a single dark skinned person in sight i dont mean gabrielle union dark i MEAN foxy brown dark.....whats so wrong with dark skinned sistas...are they that ugly or something, it makes me very sad and angry

Why are there only light skinned black girls in the music industry/music videos?
Do you think they're "that ugly?" (wow). It was strange reading that part. In any case, no - of course they're not ugly. Lighter has always been deemed prettier (and better) by the people who are superficial and for those who just don't know better. When black people do it, I see it as them (us) hating themselves.

Light skinned black girls are popular in music videos because they are less "African looking" (I guess) than the darker-skinned sistas. It's really sad and unfortunate for us (I'm dark) but at the end of the day, you have to know your own worth and seek out those who will value your beauty as being JUST AS POWERFUL. Don't let the music video execs influence your opinion on yourself. Many of them idealize white features because they hate black features... they themselves suffer from poor self esteem. I can go on and on, but I won't. Just please don't let it get to you although it IS sad.
Reply:The darker the better if you ask me!! Report It

Reply:I haven't met you and I don't even know you, but I think your beautiful!

Beauty is skin deep. Report It

Reply:I think that a lot of it has to do with makeup and lightning. Mary J. Blige isn't light skinned, but she looks that way in a lot of photos.
Reply:I like my women like I like my milkshakes,dark and thick(-;
Reply:typically the darker skinned people are related to as the lower class or laborers of the race

the lighter skinned people were the ones that worked inside at the better jobs

who would you rather be with the person with the better life inside or a laborer in the field????
Reply:Because they r really Tallented
Reply:Foxy Brown? As in the rapper?

She's Filipina/Black mix.

Hot azz hell too.
Reply:Im light skinned but I see what you talking about, I can really only name one dark skinned african-american who sings, and I don't even think she did good when she went single..I'm talking about Kelly from Destiny's Child.

Edit;; Mary J Blidge is light skinned, she's a red bone.

What do you think about fur wearers?

I have seen a few video clips on the fur industry and how they skin the animals and its so sad and discusting and wrong. Do they treat all of the animals this way for fur? Are there any nice fur farms? I have a couple bunny jackets (i didnt know they were real when I bought them) and now I feel completely guilty about them. Is there a humane way to get the fur off of the animals without them going through so much pain and suffering?

What do you think about fur wearers?
There's no humane way to skin an animal. You could shave them, as in shaving sheep for wool. But generally, you need to skin them to work with the skin.

Not all fur factories are as horrible as the ones that PETA show. They don't just go beat animals. Sometimes, the animals are trapped or killed instantly, without suffering.

You shouldn't really feel guilty about the jackets if you already have them. Honestly, the bunny is already dead. Just wear it. I have a friend who wears a bunny hat, it was a gift to her, it's cute, so why shouldn't she wear it if it's already dead?

In all honesty, wearing a bunny is no different than wearing leather. I'm sure you at least have one pair of shoes with leather, or maybe you have a leather wallet. The big problem with fur is that it's cute little bunnies, not many people think cows are cute. But then there's the argument that people eat cow, so why not use the hide? People eat bunnies too - so I guess, use the fur.

Personally, I'm not a fan of fur. But, I'd never judge someone who wore it. ... Except this one lady on the bus who, I'm not exaggerating, had snake skin boots, bunny rabbit pom pom scarf, leather jacket, fluffy hat and a purse made from god knows what - stingray? She was wearing half the animal kingdom - it was hilarious!!

There are so many faux fur options that are quite tasteful. Don't worry about your bunny jackets. If you don't want to wear them, you could consign them and hopefully some people will buy your used coat rather than supporting the death of more bunnies
Reply:Yea i know. It's very mean. There is no other way unfortunatly
Reply:I'm pretty sure anything I have is not real but at least they aren't being killed!! I guess that could be the good side of it.

I don't know of any other way though! Sorry.

Merry Christmas! =]

2 %26amp; 3. I don't know

Personally I think that it's just wrong. Maybe if the animal shed it like a snake and had more fur under, it would be ok. But I doubt it.
Reply:they should burn in hellll

Even those popular jackets with the fur on the hood could be dog fur! I did a report on it, and popular disigners such as tommy hilfiger used fur imorted from china labeled as "Faux Fur" but they tested as dog fur... also, there is a lot of poverty there, so they would skin the dogs, and then sell the parts, some people even eat them because they are starving ):

i wish everyone knew that faux fur, could always be real fur ):

its so sad, you see everywhere girl wearing fur hoods, but do they know what they are represtenting? even if the fur is still fake, you are still representing skinning animals for their fur,, when it is completly pointless

go to this websight

http://www.infurmation.com/

its very informative. :)

the most horrible thing is when men take out clubs and beat baby seals while their mother are being clubbed to death by another man
Reply:It is cruel, it is cruel, it is cruel. NICE fur farms? DEFINE A NICE FUR FARM. Whether or not they torture them first, WHICH MOST OF THEM DO, they are killing the animals JUST FOR THE FUR. What if someone killed YOU just so that they could USE YOUR SKIN FOR THE LATEST HANDBAG? And if you're thinking shaving, no. That would not work.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm mad at you, I'm really not. I know you didn't know any better, but PLEASE, do NOT support the fur industry!!!! It's so WRONG.

At the person below me: Most leather is a BYPRODUCT of beef and lamb. But if it's like... alligator leather. Armadillo leather. Etc. THEN I AM AGAINST THAT TOO. It's not because the bunnies are CUTE!!! And also not many people even EAT rabbit, and if they do I doubt that the fur in her jacket is a byproduct of that. Therefore the bunnies are killed PRIMARILY for the fur.

Studying Botany?

I'm really starting to love plants and have such a great facination and admiration for them. What interests me is their productive role in our enviroment ( not interested in enviromental issues) such as providing us with food, medicines and their natural healing properties. I have read a little on ethnobotany and find it facinating but don't wish to specialize in it. Also their uses in the skin care/beauty/aromatherapy industry.

I also would be interested in learning anything about their aesthetic beauty ie why they are different colours, why they produce fragances. Their secret little world like their senstivity to stimuli and of course the usual stuff like breading and gentetics.

Would any of these topics be covered in a botany degree? What actually is covered? Given my above interests, would botany be a ideal path for me? A friend suggested I study horticulture but I have no interest in planting and landscaping.

Studying Botany?
Sounds like you should aim at horticultural research as a field to work in ... study horticultural science but major in plant breeding and genetics. Given the interests you list, a regular botany degree would not suit you.
Reply:As far as I know.... the hormones present in the plants are responsible for their fascinating characteristics..... like ours....

Studying horticulture?

I posted in Botany and was advised given my interest that horticulture would be more suitable for me. Here is some of what I posted:

Would horticulture be better for me? What did you learn about in your course?

Studying horticulture?
So you like cars, but wouldn't want to be a mechanic? My dear, you answered your own question. "I have no interest in planting and landscaping." Define horticulture. Read about the classes taken by the student above.

The study of horticulture would bore you to tear %26amp; would be a waste of your time and that of those teaching you. Maybe as a passing minor, but no way should you give any thought as a major.

You touched on many different fields of intrest. But the only ones you gave a no doubt, thumbs down to (enviroment %26amp; planting and landscaping) are the main back bones of any horticulture course of study.

The things you seem most interested in have little to do with the actual study of horticulture in itself. I know from my many years as both student %26amp; teacher that your heart and intrests would be misdirected should you go in this direction.

Go back %26amp; do some more homework in the areas you seem to enjoy. I'm sure you will find a more suitable direction for your energies.

Be happy.
Reply:I received a B.S. in Horticulture from Temple University, and I am currently working on my M.S. in Horticulture at Penn State University.

During my undergrad studies I learned alot about how plants function and how they can be used for landscapes and gardening. My classes involved botany, plant physiology, plant genetics, plant taxonomy, plant pathology, entomology, plant identification, plant ecology, greenhouse operation, plant care, and landscape design.

In my grad studies I am focusing on conifer production.

From the interests you have described, I think you are best suited to take a horticulture major with a focus in botany or plant physiology. Most of the topics you have discussed fall in the botany or physiology categories. Many horticulture programs focus primarily on information to be used in landscaping or gardening, which doesn't sound like the focus you're looking for.

Studying plants is great! I would recommend it : )
Reply:I would advise you to call the appropriate departments of universities of your choice, explain exactly the things you have described above and ask their advice on the best option to cater for your needs.
Reply:From your description, it doesn't sound like horticulture is for you. Definitely look into plant physiology, which is the study of function in plants (photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration, etc.) Botany (study of plants) would also be great because it goes more into cells and what they do, genetics would also be very helpful since that will help you to understand why plants are the way they are. Genetics also helps you understand how plants are selected for different traits (like fragrance, flower color, even insect resistance).

In my horticulture courses and experiences, I did a lot of gardening, learned many planting techniques, propagation, plant identification, garden design, etc...

Research what it is you are looking to do. Some of the answers recommended contacting a local university, I would definitely do that. They can help you and lead you in the right direction and also let you know which courses you could take!

Have fun!
Reply:I have a B.S. in Horticulture. I minored in Science and Technology. I took classes in plant physiology, breeding techniques, morphology, mycology and pathology, genetics, plant tissue culture, etc, etc, etc.

My fav courses were mycology/pathology and plant tissue culture because i got to see first hand the way plant cells respond to different stimuli. I was able to culture and grow my very own plants from protoplasm; an amazing thing to watch, though mostly its is under a microscope. I also helped cultivate some new varieties of lilies as a special studies class with my Horticulture Advisor.

You can take a lot of the same if not similar courses in the Botany field. There are different types of horticulture: Ornamental Horticulture, Landscape Horticulture, etc.

I would suggest you check out the course listings for each major at the universities you are interested in attending. Remember you can choose a lot of courses yourself. Your entire college career is not laid out in black and white in front of you from day one. You have choices in most every aspect of either major.

Ultimately it is your decision, but I hope you weigh both options carefully before coming to a decision. And don't forget.....

there's always Grad School, where you can, and are expected to, narrow the focus of your studies.

How does the fur industry kill animals like minks, foxes, etc. before they are skinned?

I was wondering what methods are employed by the fur industry to kill the animals before they are skinned for their fur.

I am pretty sure they would use gas or lethal injection, which would be humane and relatively painless. Just wondering if anybody knew.

There are a lot of people who have condemned the fur industry's treatment of animals, but I generally don't trust people from organizations like PETA.

How does the fur industry kill animals like minks, foxes, etc. before they are skinned?
My buddy who has a mink farm uses carbon monoxide from the exhaust of a farm tractor that goes through ice to cool it before the minks even breath it. Anybody who subscribes to PETA's nonsense, is just a very gullible person. PETA just preys on many peoples emotions to weaken them into giving money, it is all about money.
Reply:I actually think that they are gassed. Years back it was shown on a TV program that minks were pushed into what looked like jam jars, with a tube at the other end to allow the gas in.

Whilst PETA may be a little extreame, a lot of what they show is the truth.
Reply:they also use electricity, they electrocute them. very painful indeed.

not all farms use gas.
Reply:They only use animals that died from natural causes.
Reply:Does it really matter? That's like asking how does KFC kill their chickens before they reach their restaurants. Who cares????
Reply:i am not from PETA or anything, and i'm not a lunatic animal rights person, but:

i do know that a lot of the animals are not even killed before they are skinned- basically, they are skinned alive, and then left in a bloody heap to die.

watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCnQtGE88...

i don't want to upset anyone by this, but i just want you to think.

i eat meat and stuff, but i have land, and i only eat meat that i have killed myself- like with a shotgun. if you shoot something in the head it is dead before it can register the pain- so it doesn't feel pain at all! i never eat meat bought from stores.

people will always wear fur and eat meat, this cannot be stopped and i am not even trying to make it stop - i just think it could be done more humanely.

Is it reasonable to label fair skinned filipinas as fake, pretenders, wanna be, etc?

hello! I have read a lot of articles similar to dis.. i agree that brown is beautiful but so is white and any other skin color..i am a fair skinned filipina myself and im not using any kinds of whitening soap,lotion,bleach,etc..it is hypocrisy to label us as pale, ugly and unideal when the truth is most Filipino is aspiring whiter skin that is why whitening industry is a billion peso business....i even remembered someone said that there is a need to ban actresses and models who are fair skinned bcoz they do not represent a real filipina..how about me and other fair skinned filipinas? are we not considered a real filipina?? i think its really unfair to improved ones self esteem by putting down the others..it depends on individual preferences of what is beautiful and what is not..im really emotional about this issues..all skin colors are beautiful..its just a matter of being confident with ones own skin to make it more beautiful..tnx...

Is it reasonable to label fair skinned filipinas as fake, pretenders, wanna be, etc?
It's Ironic that you have a billion $ whitening industry while we here have a billion $ tanning and darkening industry-LOL

I really don't understand why people of any skin color would try to use color to define their superiority or to make others feel inferior...It's just plain stupid...

You are the way God made you...There is certainly no shame in that!

I think this world would be a pretty dull place if we all looked the same ;)
Reply:i actually had no idea there was such a thing AS skin whiteners. i think it is UNREASONABLE to label ANYONE for ANYTHING! Everyone is unique in color and personality, and should be respected and enjoyed as such.
Reply:lol you have same problems as Indians
Reply:I think you know the answer to the question. We should never judge a person by their skin color.

BTW...I grew up in the Philippines and I always thought the woman were all beautiful. Don't listen to the critics and hold your head high.
Reply:I am A Filipino, 100% Pinoy, a true-blooded by race and by heart.

Please remember that Filipinos are a mixture of diffrent races: Americans, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, etc. and I totally agree with you.

I don't understand it myself why other Filipinos are so obsessed with skin whiteners.

I too have a fair complexion and I feel good with it.

For those who had labelld us ugly, unideal, etc., I don't really mind. We are who we are, that's waht matters most. God made us this way because we are better this way. All are beautiful, it depends on your perspective!

How do I know what my strengths and weaknesses are for my next career move?

I have worked in the beauty and skin care retail industry for about 8 years and I am having a hard time figuring out what my strengths and weaknesses are. Should I take a personality test?

I want my next career move to be a monday thru friday job , something where I am constantly on the move and make at least $39000 a year with benefits. any suggestion?

How do I know what my strengths and weaknesses are for my next career move?
It helps to get feedback from customers, coworkers, and supervisors that you can share with your next employer.

Is the 3 meal day universal?

I grew up with 3 meals every day: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Several diet books recommend eating 6 meals daily. Is the 3 meal day an American concept? Do other cultures have different eating schedules? I imagine that the men in that tribe would have rock-hard chiseled six-pack abs, bulging pecs, and huge penises. And the women would be unimaginably beautiful with large breasts, round buttocks, and smooth skin. It'd be like Hollywood, but all-natural and with darker skin. The movie industry favors surgically-enhanced Caucasians.

Is the 3 meal day universal?
You got a little off track with your question didn't ya?

Well, actually, the 3 meal a day concept is a northern European monarchial concept. To feed a full castle of monarchs and the family (which at one time could easily be 50 or more daily) It was easier to feed multitudes several times a day. Breaking your fast was from 6 am to 8 am, Lunch 12pm to 2pm, Supper at 8pm or shortly after sundown. As the centuries passed and more countries were being governed by Brittain and France the addition of Brunch and Tea time (mid morning and afternoon snack) was introduced ~ it was mostly a eastern tradition. New kitchen appliances and new fuel sources for cooking made cooking easier and faster so many respites could be made in a shorter amount of time. With new social and cultural changes now the being mandated by the King or Queen for all those of the monarchy, the nuevo riche and well to do were adopting these courtesies as well. Medical science in the past 150 yrs determined a healthy person should eat 3 meals a day rather than a morning of tea and bread and lunch of bread, cheese, and whatever else you could throw in and then the supper. Not until the 1940's could most people afford that much food daily unless they lived on or near a farm or in a major city. Light respites through out the day, except for breakfast, should be observed such as they did prior to 1450's or earlier. And now that we have food readily available we need to act as though we lived in the midevil period and that our food sources are there to sustain us not to please us.

Good question though.
Reply:I eat 6 meals, small meals

i don't like to stuff myself at once. I hate just 3 big meals.
Reply:????????????

Your weird! How does food go into all this mush up?

Well to answer your question yes, except America its alot alot more then all other countries including latin america, europe and asia not just spain or europe for that fact.

Ex) my friend and I went to a resort(its a guy) here, and he would eat about a plate of fruits a muffin and coffee for breakfast,a very small lunch consisting of some rice perhaps and a late dinner and its pasta and things like that and no desert, this is how we eat here,I believe america its to much
Reply:I eat 5-6 meals a day. Most people I know don't eat breakfast. When I was younger and at home, we ate 3 meals a day. I think there would still be overweight and out of shape people no matter how you change up how often someone eats. They would have to lose the fast food and make people drink more water, eat fruits/veggies/grains and exercise!
Reply:The Mazai of East Africa take three meals per day,as do most african groups. But since time is viewed very differently in african culture ,meals are not as measured/mechanical e.g at 12pm we have lunch.

Time concepts in Africa are more intuitive/emotional than mechanical. There is more of an intuitive trust/response to the natural cycle of things within the body or outside the body - when to eat when not to eat. Like the indians they understand the body has it's own rhythm.

Northern european monarchs did'nt invent the concept of the three day meal.Monarchs were a later borrowed concept in what was once a largely tribal northern europe. We probably inherited the formality of a three day meal structure from the romans.
Reply:I eat 4-5. Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, Dinner, and Dessert.
Reply:I believe the smaller meals are healthier. I graze on healthy food all day long. I can't tell you how many times I've been gently reminded at work not to eat at my desk, but we all snack. :)

Really shocking! How can people do that for profit!!? NOT FOR SENSITIVE PEOPLE .

This video shows how the industry's skins kill animals to get the skins. It is really horrible!! The worst part is... they dont kill them!

http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/video.asp?...

Please just think about this video before you want to buy a dead animal skin.

Really shocking! How can people do that for profit!!? NOT FOR SENSITIVE PEOPLE .
Who cares? Animals are nothing but raw material for food and clothing.
Reply:that is shoking !!

they should atleast give them some respect and kill them first !!
Reply:I cannot even bring myself to watch such videos. They are sickening and more sick are the ugly minded people who do it.
Reply:I dont buy fur or leather.
Reply:I never have nor will I ever buy a fur coat.
Reply:I won't watch because I find the killing and harming of animals abhorrent and I agree with you that animal fur should never be sold, let alone worn.
Reply:Terrible,i would never buy animal skins.
Reply:I can't watch the video. I saw a story about 10 yrs ago on 20/20 on how in China they use cats as food. They take a live cat, put it in boiling water and skin it alive and then gut it, alive, and then send it to the kitchen.

I am still haunted by it and have difficulty buying anything that has once lived.

I am sorry but I just can't watch it although it is definitely something that the world US need to be made aware of.
Reply:jeez that was so awful it made me cry. :-(
Reply:You can guarantee that i would never buy any animal furs regardless of wether i`d seen the video or not. The video is the sort of film that should be shown outside shops that sell fur. Dispicable....
Reply:this is just sick. these people should be punished. perhaps with the same treatment the animals got.
Reply:wow...makes you wonder why someone never taught these people to have a heart and concious. how do you get so heartless that you can do this. that's not profit...that's heartlessness. that's the only way to do that to ANY animal, no matter what the reason is!!
Reply:PETA is the worst idea america ever had.
Reply:will take ur word for it cos I can't bear to watch sickos profiting from defenceless animals!

apparently there was an article in the news that said people that protest against the wearing of fur are jealous cos they can't afford it! I don't think so, people that wear fur are mindless morons! and if that happens to be actress's %26amp; celebrity's then so be it! I could afford Fur if I wanted but i have a perfect warm coat with wool in it - why wear an animal pelt! My doggie has his own fur coat, it belongs on him as a labrador not on a human!
Reply:Every person who's ever bought a fur coat should be made to watch that every day for the rest of their lives.

I've always said fashion was stupid, but that is just beyond words.
Reply:I really consider myself a hard hearted person but this video made me sad. I couldn't even watch the whole thing. I don't buy fur because it's gross. It won't really change my views on anything but I'd like to point out the savages doing this are from a third world country. I have hunted before and no human with any respect for life would treat an animal like this. This is what people do before they move on to killing humans. It's satanic and evil. One can only hope these poor creatures are vindicated.
Reply:thats sick we should skin thos people alive and see how they feel that video was really shocking the part where the animal had been skinned and it was still moving about , really sad
Reply:I'm at a loss for words after seeing this, I guess blind indifference leads to these unimaginable atrocities. Horrible !
Reply:EVIL, SICK, VILE, DISGUSTING, RANCID, CRUEL, HORRIBLE AND SHOCKING!!!!!!!. They should show this to rich morons who think fur is glamourous.
Reply:that is really gross i just cant believe, i couldn't watch past about 5 seconds!
Reply:welcome to the worst of mankind.period.
Reply:I own fur coats - they were given to me and I will continue to wear them, at least in private anyway. To me, throwing them out and creating more unnecessary waste and landfill is a bigger crime than the animals dying in the first place.

Also, in certain parts of the world, the only thing that's going to keep you warm is an animal skin. Tried and tested for thousands of years!!

So you can get off your soap box and take your rant elsewhere!
Reply:Another reason why humanity needs to go away.
Reply:as awful as it is some people actually still buy fur.
Reply:I am not easily moved by graphic or gory images, I saw all 3 of the "Saw" movies with no problem. I am in the wildlife management field and I honestly am not bothered by animals being killed, it is necessary for food, clothing, tools, etc. I think hunting when done correctly is great population control for species whose populations are way above the carrying capacity and whose natural predators are no longer present.

That said, that was one of the most disturbing, horrific pieces of film I have ever witnessed in my 29 years of life. I don't even cry at sad movies or funerals but that brought me to tears. I find PETA rather irritating, but that video should be shown to anyone in or supporting the fur trade. Not to stop fur trading, per se, but to make damn well sure that you are not supporting these sorts of facilities. Come on, how much more effort would it have taken to club the thing out of it's misery or better, to have shot it or ANYTHING besides skinning it alive!
Reply:That is truly disgusting i wish i could get my hands on them and rip thir flesh from them and stand all over them because that is exactly what they deserve i hope they die a slow and painful death just like the animals sorry if i sound evil but that has really upset me
Reply:I imagine this is what your video is about. From PETA:

To kill the animals without damaging their fur, trappers usually strangle, beat, or stomp them to death. Animals on fur farms may be gassed, electrocuted, poisoned with strychnine, or have their necks snapped. These methods are not 100 percent effective and some animals "wake up" while being skinned.

So, it's more of an unusual case where the animal is awake when killed. It's not an industry practice.

What to use instead?

There are many alternatives to leather, including cotton, linen, rubber, ramie, canvas, and synthetics. Chlorenol (called “Hydrolite” by Avia and “Durabuck” by Nike) is an exciting new material that is perforated for breatheability and is used in athletic and hiking shoes. It stretches around the foot with the same “give” as leather, gives good support, and is machine-washable.

Cold Hard Truth

Some hard facts are that people like using animal skins in a variety of things and it is cost effective as well. Much leather is a byproduct of the meat industry in the US. Better to use it than to just throw it away.

I know, I know, people will say we shouldn't eat the cows either, but the fact is we do, and that fact is unlikely to change.

So what to do?

1) If you don't like it, don't buy it. And I mean don't buy any leather goods or you are not really walking the walk that you are talking about.

2) Put your $ where your mouth is. Give money to organizations that support your beliefs. Pay more for goods that are not made from animal skins.

3) Put your actions behind your words. Volunteer with organizations that promote your beliefs.

4) Vote. Enough said.

5) Advocate with your legislators/representatives to effect change at the legal and policy levels.

and if you wouldn't mind not yelling and screaming that everyone who wears animal skins is a murderer I would appreciate it. It adds nothing to the conversation and only alienates those that you are seeking to convince.

I'm sure I'll get lots of flak for this but what the heck. It's just my two cents.
Reply:i'm sorry i could not watch all of this.

how can anybody do this?
Reply:If you think that's bad, you should watch the news and see what humans do to each other. We are still cavemen with high tech sticks and stones.
Reply:Considering the source on this one

PETA and all its members really need to do something about the incessant whining coming from they're direction that is about as Muderous as eating meat or wearing fur. While we are at it PETA should also be classified as Terrorists organization for supplying funding too known terrorists groups ALF and ELF. Support PETA and the Terrorists win
Reply:IF THEYRE SHOT TO THE HEAD OR INJESTED I THINK ITS FINE AS LONG AS THE ANIMAL DOESNT SUFFER ,

Does the western world still have a color complex towards blacks or people of African decent?

I purused Macy catelogues in US and Canada, I noticed most of the Blk men/women were VERY light skinned. Maybe there were one or two who were peanut butter brown.

Even in the "HIGH FASHION" industry dark skinned girls dont get to wear the same types of clothes or colors. If a woman is chestnut or darker she is considered "exotic" and she might were lime green or sand-brown colors. Unless a BLK women who is dark skin has made a name for her self in music or television, she will be hard pressed to reach the SUPER MODEL STATUS.

Its sad the SOME blk brothers have bought into this idea that LIGHT is RIGHT. Most BLK ATHLETES wives are either asian, white, biracial or so light-skinned that you can't tell what category they fit in.

HERE IS MY QUESTION TO YOU

Do you feel...................

1.The West is still stuck on race?

2.TV has left a lasting imprint that dark blk is still ugly or "animalish"?

I agree, there seems to be a bias towards favoring lighter skinned blacks.

However, I think the bias began with the Africans, themselves. In many parts of Africa there are "tanning parlors" where people go to lighten instead of darken their skin. African women need to stop using chemical lighteners--it is horrible for their skin...not to mention, it makes them smell bad.

Skin color fads come and go. Being lighter skinned used to be preferred because it meant that you had money---lighter skin meant not having to work out in the sun like the "common" people. It wasn't until the 1920's when Coco Channel popularized the suntan from her vacations in St. Tropez, that women wanted to have darker skin.

I'm sure the tide will turn in a few years, and people will want to have dark skin again.
Reply:I cannot speak for the rest of the West, but I can assure you that a person's skin colour does not influence me in any way.

As for TV, I don't think it perpetuates any stereotypes regarding light skinned blacks versus dark skinned blacks. However, TV still relies on stereotypes for blacks in general.

I suppose I should make note that I am white.
Reply:1. Of course the West (especially America) is still stuck on race. That fact will never change. There have been many of times I have been told "You're pretty for a black girl," or "You're the prettiest black girl I have ever seen." I guess I can't just be a pretty girl.

2. TV and society as a whole has left that mark. TV only magnifies real life.

In the U.K. people from the former Soviet Bloc are flooding in to take our jobs on lower wages so causing huge unemployment and stopping people who have lived here and served their country all their lives INCLUDING WHITE, ASIAN AND AFRO-CARIBBEAN BRITS getting work when we desperately need it. Many employers particularly in such as the hospitality industry will not now employ native Brits because they get the migrant workers cheap. The migrants coming in from such countries as Poland , Czech republic, Estonia, Rumania etc. are not black nor brown but white! They are being encouraged to come here as a deliberate policy by our out of touch politicians Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron, Ming Campbell etc. as a deliberate policy involving expansion of the European Union, despite fact that most people in the U.K. are opposed to U.K. being in the E.U. and there has never been any kind of referendum or consultation with people by tony blair's government about this. Nobody has ever been consulted about expanding it to allow Soviet Bloc countries in. This is creating unemployment bitterness and misery in this country. That is why we detest them and want to see them clear out and go back to their own country to make the U.K. like it used to be.

Is that racism? I think not but form your own conclusion as to our feelings please!.
Reply:Why do people still talk about this like it ever stopped? Every week there's something different on TV to remind us that yes, the industry admits, officially, that it has issues with race. Personally, as a black person, I'm annoyed by all the media we're getting. Yes, we know the industry, and most industries have problems with race. Yes, we know they know. I used to be able to go online to get away from the constant, "Does this company / person / industry have problems with race?" but now, now, I can't even go online to get away from it.

You know there are other minorities that no one likes too.
Reply:i've thot about this several times coz i'm black too and i feel that altho people are getting more enlightened, the issue of racial discrimination is something that can never be totally eradicated.the most important thing for black people is to prove their know-how wherever they might find themselves.people would respect u even if they don't like ur color.
Reply:I agree with the prior poster. This problem never went away. We need to stop acting like its no longer an issue when it really is.

In America there is still racism (just like in the rest of the world). The racism in America is allot less then it was 30 yrs ago and in 30 yrs from, there will be even less racism. People can't help the color of the people they are attracted too. It's more of a personal preference.
Reply:Have you noticed how Black people who think they are from Africa do not like Caribbean People?
Reply:I do think subconciously the western hemisphere....mostly the United States is more stuck on race. Not so the South American Countries because to my understanding they have more darker skinned people then they do light skinned people. But i do see it in the entertainment industry as you do. Never really gave it any serious thought but it has crossed my mind from time to time. I had a teacher who was from the Czech Republic and one of the first things she noticed when she came to the United States is that people look at being lighter is better. In a way that is true becaue of the of the countries history towards people with darker skin (slavery). That is where most racial problems come from, slavery. When slavery was abolished white people didn't want to be seen as equal to black people that were once underneath them as slaves. So they started descriminating. Most of that died down but now its subconciously done in the entertainment industry.
Reply:Hi. I'd like to try to answer your question as my experience allows, and add a few bits Iv'e noticed along the way.

For starters, Eddie Murphy's wife in "Dr Dolittle" = the whitest black woman ever. Did he choose her fot the part?

In Hollywood movies the wives are always lighter than their husbands. Does this reflect the real desires of black men? Which came first - the desire or the image, if you see what I mean.

I think you are right about the models - I's O.K to be very dark and exotic like Alek Wek who is a Somalian catwalk super model. Catalogues by definition are appealing to the widest possible customer base with generally bland products, and have the bland models to suit. So, nothing to dark or even unusual, like Lily Cole who is white.

I am white and have just come back from a year teaching in Uganda. There the children are racist and discriminate between shades of brown. The darker you are the poorer they think you look - they say you are the son of your askari (guard) which is really insulting. Also there, mixed race people are considered white.

It's not the west that is stuck on race - it is everybody. It is institutional, global and traditional. T.V only reflects what is out there already. I have travelled in many countries and have seen racism and discrimination in every one of them.

But, however bad things are, just step back only a few years and it's way worse.
Reply:My answer is a question... Why do you specify Blacks of "Africaian decent? Don't other Blacks (some Indians for example) count? And why don't you like lite skinned Blacks? Does one have to be a particular shade to qualify as Black?
Reply:Wow, how timely. I wrote a book of poetry on this issue titled: "I WANT WHAT MOST WHITE WOMEN GOT: A BLACK MAN." www.Vs-Voice.com and www.myspace.com/vsvoice

Unfortunately, color is still a factor in the West (USA) as well as overseas according to some Sistahs I have connected with on MySpace. (London in particular.)

What a pity, the world is missing out on our dark, chocolate beauty by trying to minimize it to something less by promoting lighter skin tones instead. I am confident with my looks and I wouldn't change a thing.

Also, please note that I do not have an issue with my light-skinned Sistahs. I have an issue with the media and Brothahs who think that light or white is the only way to go.

Estee lauder?

Hi everyone, i am currently doing a estee lauder project and i have some doubts.

Is estee lauder the market leader of the skin care industry?

Where is the industry heading?

Has the industry been performing well?

Estee lauder?
Lauder is a force to be reckoned with in the cosmetic industry. not only do they own Etsee Lauder, they own Clinique, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Coty! My answer would be yes! As far as the industry performing well, I know my Lauder business is on fire!
Reply:Well, they do own Estee Lauder, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, and MAC Cosmetics, so they are definitely in the lead. As far as whether they are performing well, you should probable look on their website and see the stats about the company.

Why if you ask why do Indian people have an obsession with skin lightening products on Indian Yahoo Answers do

they suspend your account?

Is it a touchy subject for them because it is a multi billion dollar industry over there?

Other races do not freak out if you say that they may like to have a tan!

Why if you ask why do Indian people have an obsession with skin lightening products on Indian Yahoo Answers do
Hi,i had no idea they do it.Wonder why %26amp; they must be ashamed of lightening there skin.Maybe its the same has us

tanning.
Reply:i dunno make a new acount and do it on that bcause if they suspend it you won't loose your points. x
Reply:You seem to have an obsession in asking this question
Reply:Probably because of the way you asked the question: it could be considered a biased/racist sort of question that is influenced by stereo-types. Obviously, not all Indian (not even most or a lot) of Indian people even think about skin lightening. I would think it is a question that could offend a lot of people and evoke a lot of negative responses. You might as well ask why white people like the KKK or why Jewish people are rich - Different questions, but questions nonetheless that are both influenced by stereotypes and biased/racist ideas.

If you asked your question in a different way such as: I am interested in learning about skin lightening. What are the advantages and disadvantages? Does it work? If you've had it done, what influenced you to do so? ... I'm sure you'd get a much different response.
Reply:my friend is indian and she puts sunscreen on and avoids the sun

she says its because fairer skin is seen as more beautiful in india

i have noticed a few black pop stars have got lighter over the years as well
Reply:because you are using the term Indian, instead of Asian.

Tea tree oil is obtained from the melaleuca alternifolia tree native to Australia. Possibly its use has not grown more because traditional doctors either do not know it or because the pharmacy industry doesn´t care for it and doctors usually do not recommend

products or medicines out of the stablishment.

Anyway is useful to people that good natural products get more known. So if you have good experience with this oil let all us know about it

Years ago, milky coffee developed a skin when it cooled. Why doesn't that happen now?

(I suspect that we used to have full cream milk, whereas now we have semi-skimmed. If that's the answer, fine, but I wonder if there is a different process in the milk industry that causes this difference.)

Years ago, milky coffee developed a skin when it cooled. Why doesn't that happen now?
milk is now homogenized to keep it from separating

before it was only pasteurized

it was the cream that separated and scummed on the top now it takes higher temps to make milk separate

So depending on how hot your coffee is sometimes it will scum

It also depends on how much fat is in the milk you are using

the skim milk has lower fat now then it did before and now they have 1%
Reply:mine still gets a skin on top.Must be the change of milk.
Reply:yep, full cream is what makes the skin on the top of your coffee.
Reply:my milky coffe has a skin so does my custard

we used to fight over who would get the custard skin
Reply:it must be because there is no fat in the milk
Reply:yep ....we used to get our milk from the milkman which had cream on the top of it...
Reply:I use semi skimmed milk and still get a skin on top when I have hot milk, haven't had milky coffee for years lol!
Reply:You are right it is because the majority of us use semi skimmed. I must say i do not miss it as it made me gag.
Reply:A couple of months ago, I put a similar question in the home's newsletter.

Basically when the fats and proteins are heated, they separate and the fats float to the top and as the milk cools again, they start to coagulate once more and that is what forms the skin we see.

If you haven't been using creamy, fatty milk, the effect would have been less pronounced.
Reply:I use full fat milf but it's all in cartons these days and we used bottled back then. Maybe that's the reason? Also I remember my parents used to use coffee-mate and there was a skin.
Reply:I have to agree with Kay.ce. If my coffee is not ver hot, then there is no skin. But, if the coffee was really hot (like wormed up in the microwave) then the skin does form.
Reply:You hit the nail on the head. Less cream if any too much fat. We used to get milk delivered and in the winter the cream came to the top and froze. my dad use that for his coffee and he better not find anyone else using it

Why all Indian female movie stars has to be light skin, what about dark skin girls no chance or what???
(Your avatar is fairly light skinned too.)

I'm guessing a prejudice that stems from the caste system.

That is unfortunate. It's a shame when the entertainment for a whole country of people represents only a small percentage of the people in that country.

Reply:Friend,

Now a dys Indian movies are made with action and violence as the main theme.

The Heroine is there nominally to dance with hero occassionally to relieve monotony and to give time of some 3 minutes to smokers to go out and smoke.actually we see no part ,active oart played by the heroine.Just there should be a beautiful figure. So the producers import the heroines from all over India and abroad .some times the first film is the last film of so many heroines.they do not know action,no expressions .They are there to entertain in place of comedians and to give some sexy scenes. The Heroine though comes from a rich family has for reasons not known has rags of different colours to wear.most of her skin is exposed.

in the olden days the heroines were part and paercel of story and in each song the story was also moving and you could not miss asong.

Now the Heroine dances for the ununderstandable lyrics as SHIVA TANDAVAM and AEROBICS,god knows why on the back drop of hero nd heroine there are about 50 junior artists doing gimmicks.

The Hero is more than a Spiderman,he is all powerful.without weapon he can do wonders in a mafia den.He never misses his target and hisvrevolver never runs out of bullets. But the trained police and professional criminals too fail to aim and shooot the Hero with advanced weapons. What more comedy you want.

The Indian movies are examples to''HOW A FILM SHOULD NOT BE MADE''

So there is no reason to search for a reason in films in India.

The producers want new faces so they bring some good blooking nfigure from some place.Because she need not know the language in which the film is made, the meaning of dialogues and songs, every thing is ok to producers.

People see just to entertain themselves for some 2 hours.

so please do not expect any reasonability in the any thing i INDIAn films.
Reply:yes...........

Most of them are dark skinned, it's the make up.

What are you thinking?

If you have a dream, go for it. Don't let the color of the skin come in between.

Good Luck.

shilpa shetty is not dark either. if u put her next to a white person, the white person will have very fair skin while shilpa would have a light tan olive complexion.

well one think i can say for sure, light skin is beautiful. Does not mean every light skin girl is pretty. Dark skin is sexy. how can indian actresses do u know that are really sexy ?

Why does the skin give off the odor of vinegar?

My husband showers daily but his skin still smells like vinegar. Is it some type of deficiency or too much of something? He works in the oil field industry around salt water and oil; also he smokes. I don't know what any of this may have to do with it. Just trying to give some info.

Thanks for any help out there.

Why does the skin give off the odor of vinegar?
Candida overgrowth can do that. Just as wine turns to vinegar when it dies, the yeast coming out of the skin and dying will produce the smell. Controlling the candida overgrowth will end it. A good way to test for candida is to swab the skin with hydrogen peroxide. If it smells of vinegar, its out of control. Antibiotics cause the problem by destroying the beneficial bacteria that keeps the candida in check. Sweets, alcohol, etc. fuel the problem. Many take probiotic supplements to restore the ballance.
Reply:Smoking...UGH!!! Its a fact that it causes your skin to give off an odor...have him stop immediately...get him the patches or lave the laser pressure points done to stop cravings. Smoking is disgusting! I recall, the oil refinement process releases sulfur, so this combined with smoking will definitely cause a nasty body odor...but get him to stop smoking immediately...that is the root of the problem for sure...
Reply:If he sweats significantly, what you may be smelling is ammonia, which is released through the pores when you perspire. Some people smell much more strongly of it than others. Also, if he drinks a significant amount of alcohol, that is what you may be smelling. Even after the alcohol is processed out of the body, it can have a significant effect on a person's odor.

I'm sure the oil field and smoking aren't helping much. I used to work in an oil field myself, and never noticed the type of problem you are describing. However, due to the extremely strict fire codes there, all smokers had to huddle into a tiny, barely ventilated smoking room, which smelled awful even from a distance. That could definitely have something to do with it.

Has anyone had there skin burnt after using a phototherepy machine?

Since going on a LED Phototherapy machine my face and neck skin has been totally destroyed by the laser. I now have a big lesion all over my neck and my skin is completely dryed/red/burnt. It has not got better in two months.

I am worried about the long term damage. The Dr has also put me on Betnovate or Betamethasone. A steroid cream, this has left my face totally dry and it helped to clear the scales, but once you stop it, it comes straight back.

Please can you tell me if i should use Tazaroten retinoids on my face. My latest dermatologist says this is best for me.

Is there not a natural form of Vitamin A with no side effects?

Im beginning to wonder if Drs are not in fact brainwashed salesman for the pharmacauticals industry. How can these people be so respected. Nothing they have perscribed me has ever worked.

Please help, i cannot put anymore chemicals on my face, is there a natural alternative? But right now i cannot face the world and i so want to with a bright cleanface.

Has anyone had there skin burnt after using a phototherepy machine?
I used a phototherapy machine for my eczema a couple years ago. You didn't say but I take it they built up the time slowly? I was only allowed on for 30 seconds the first time and they built it up by 30 seconds each visit. I have to say it didn't do me much good my skin was splitting and weeping all over (I have scars going all the way round my neck because it split open when i turned my head). It took weeks until i finally saw a nurse again who sent me straight to the consultant who put me on steroids straight away. I know its not natural but it cleared my skin up within a week and as yet it hasn't come back severely.

You could ask for an allergy test, i found out I'm wheat intolerant so i avoid it as much as possible and my skin has been much better for it.

Good luck and I hope you find something that works, I know how you are feeling, especially when its your face that is effected as people don't realize how devastating it can be.

I have a skin condition and I hope it's not cancer.?

I am 32. For the past 5 years, I have had an area on the back of my neck constantly breaking out with fairly large hard pimples. This seems to correlate time wise with working in an industry where collars and being outdoors go together, so I assumed it was acne. Using alcohol wipes doesn't seem to help, so now I am wondering if I have developed ingrown hairs. I think skin cancer would be more flat and show discoloration, but I don't have an answer on this annoying skin problem.

I have a skin condition and I hope it's not cancer.?
First off it sounds like the pores in the area get clogged and filled with dirt/and a shirt is abrasive.

Don't wash with alcohol use an acne scrub there like nutragena body cleaner (found in a local drug store) find a lufa mit too (found there too) and scrub - apply peroxide to help any bacteria - and see how it goes.

I'd see a doctor to rule out any issues skin cancer is more of a mole that just appears or one you have forever and suddenly changes shape and color -

This could be ingrown hairs, acne, or dermatitis.
Reply:My husband had that problem. Go to a dermotologist and have them check it out. I am sure its nothing to worry about and the Dr. will just give you medicine to apply and it will go away
Reply:It doesn't sound like cancer but you should see a doctor and get it sorted out. Any area that is constantly being irritated is more susceptible to turning cancerous.
Reply:I agree, it sound related to the job you have (I've never heard of cancer being related to pimples). Based on what you have said you probably work pretty hard and work up a good sweat. What you end up sweating out is excess toxins (crap) that your body didn't naturally get rid of.

One suggestion would be for you start uping the amount of water you drink and see if you can flush your system, especially while you are working hard. The more water you drink the less likely you'll have stuff clogging your pours creating pimples.

It couldn't hurt to try. . .

Skin dark around top lip?

over the last year i have developed a dark pigment problem above my top lip.i think this is due to years of immacing asnd it has damaged the skin almost like a burn.im so consious of it.can anyone tell me what it is,if it will get worse and how to correct it.i use sun block all year round in my makeup, use heavy concealer and exfoliate regula rly.i work in the makeup industry and its sooo embarrasing.it looks like i have a mostache.its not the hair thats dark its the skin.i now pluck by the way!

Skin dark around top lip?
This condition is called "hyperpigmentation" and can indeed be caused by sun damage (it can also occur during pregnancy, but usually in that case, it goes away when the baby is born). There are prescription creams you can use to lighten the skin, so I would recommend seeing a dermatologist. Additionally, stay out of the sun as much as possible -- don't just rely on sunscreen. Exposure to the sun will only darken the area more.
Reply:Best answer would be from a dermatologist or a doctor. It could be a sign of skin cancer.
Reply:IT CAN BE HYPERPIGMENTATION, BUT TRY SOME BLEACHING CREAM ONLY ON THAT AREA. AND SEE IF I HELPS. BUT MAYBE U SHOULD GO SEE A DERMATOLOGIST 1ST BECAUSE THEIR MEDICATIONS ARE MUCH BETTER,AND STRONGER.
Reply:do you take birth control? sometimes the pill can cause areas of your skin to become dark colored, esp. if you spend a lot of time out in the sun. I would consult your doctor.

How to exfoliate skin without using abrasive products?

My dermatologist told me that while the beauty industry makes tons of money on selling all kinds of exfoliating product, they are very abrasive to the skin and should not be used. She even told me that a simple face wash that has tiny "scrubbing beads" is bad for the face because those beads make tiny scratches on the skin, and ultimately this results in bad skin and even an early onset of wrinkles. This woman has many credentials and since she wasn't trying to sell me anything, but just giving advice, I trust her. This leads to a dilemma though, because I want to remove the dead skin cells on my face so that moisturizers and makeup is better absorbed by my skin, but I don't want to use abrasive products to exfoliate my skin, so what are my options?

How to exfoliate skin without using abrasive products?
That is correct. You can still exfoliate but its all about how you do it.

You can either get a scrub that had micropolyurethane balls (tiny plastic balls) these will perfectly and gently glide over the skin. They are completely spherical and will cause no damage whatsoever.

You could also use a AHA (alpla hydroxy acid) product to checmically munch away at the dead skin cells. I prefer natural products. Fruit aha's will have a renewing ability but will cause no harm to the skin as long as it is chemical free.

Speak to a beauty therapist or 4. Get many opinions and get them all to do skin anylysis on you.

Do not go into a department store. These people are salesmen and are there to make a sale. Not to mention that they are not completely trained in the anatomry and physiology of the skin.

Is skin care business against God?

Hi. I want to start a skin care business but I am wondering if this is an ethical industry. I want to know what God fearing people think. Is it wrong to sell skin care products that help people change the way they are? Is it wrong to make money off peoples insecurities? Is it wrong to to sell things like anti-aging products and skin creams that treat things like wrinkles, age spots, etc.?

Is skin care business against God?
anythng that does good to ur skin, health, body... watsoever pleases the creator... the bibles teaches us how to take care of the REAL temple of the holy spirit--- thats our physical aspect...
Reply:What the Hell? Whatever would a deity have to do with skin care? Just think.
Reply:het u r not changing people. u r just helping them be how god actually made them, soft and pretty. ever seen a new born , thats how god made us. we ruin our skin and then need things to make us look like we were a few years ago.
Reply:OMG........you aren't serious???!!!!
Reply:No. It is perfectly OK to do that.
Reply:I think it is ok to sell skin care products. God wants us to take care of ourselves.
Reply:Why would skin care go against God? Didn't he tell us to protect our bodies?
Reply:Is it against God? I have not read anything that would make me think so.

Is it moral? Some people think it is not moral. The morality of it should be your concern. Not if some god likes it.
Reply:It sounds like you have reservations about this. pray and let Him guide you in your decision. But if you don't feel peace then don't do it.
Reply:Honey we can give you all the things we believe, and I know this isn't why you asked the question, but the only one who can know what God truly desires of you, is God. So even though you weren't looking for this answer, it should be the first thing on your mind :). Everyone here have different beliefs, but God's word means only one thing to everyone. So the only way you will find the answer is to search for it. :)
Reply:Yes. It's ebil! Ebil I tell ya. You goin ta' hell if yas use 'dat ebil debil makeup.

- Jim Baker to Tammy
Reply:It ok with God, you are not hurting anyone.
Reply:I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. I think it is a great thing to do.
Reply:God fearing people are stupid, and you don't want their business anyway. And no, it's not wrong. Skin care is a multi-billion dollar industry. People want the products whether you're the one selling it to them or not. Might as well make your bucks.
Reply:You've gotta be kidding......right?
Reply:I don't think that God would be upset with you for trying to help people with their physical appearances and insecurities. You're not changing who anyone is by doing this.
Reply:I'm happy that you have a tender conscience! They're hard to find in this world! As for whether it's wrong, I don't think so. God bless!
Reply:God is not the one that causes the aging in the first place...it's sin that causes it...so I would say that you are safe as far as God is concerned.
Reply:gee, is it wrong to sell prosthetic limbs? doesn't God WANT them to be limbless? and Alcholics Anonymous, who do they think they are? God WANTS those drunks to continue to languish in their own vomit.

reminds me of the joke about the guy on his roof in a flood; he turns down a rescue from a rowboat, then later a helicopter, telling his would be rescuers that he has faith and God will save him. When his eventual drowning occurs and he finds himself in Heaven, he rails at God for failing him, to which God replies "Whadaya want? I sent you a boat and a helicopter"
Reply:I don't recall there be anything saying "Though shall not look good"

Clearly people of faith disagree on many things. But few women of faith feel that a facial and manicure will send them to hell!

I think the real question for you is "Will I feel good about myself helping others to look their best?" If the answer is yes, Go for it! If you have reservations about this being a good use of your talents, you may want to do something else.
Reply:If you do this in the spirit of health care (like doctors, pharmacologists) and have the necessary official license, and also follow necessary ethics, then I see no reason, why it should be wrong.
Reply:You'd be helping people feel better about themselves. That in turn helps them to do better in their lives. What's wrong with that? It's not preying upon unhappy people. I doubt God cares about what kind of face cream anyone uses. He's got bigger fish to fry and you are making an issue out of something that isn't.
Reply:I THINK IT IS ALL RIGHT TO TAKE CARE OF OUR BODY ,IT IS THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY GHOST.
Reply:I think it would be okay, it's not like your doing plastic surgery on them.
Reply:The Weak and the Strong

1 Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters.

2 One man's faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables.

3 The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him.

4 Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

5 One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.

6 He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.

7 For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone.

8 If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

10 You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God's judgment seat.

11 It is written:

"'As surely as I live,' says the Lord,

'every knee will bow before me;

every tongue will confess to God.'"[1][[11] Isaiah 45:23]

12 So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.

13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way.

14 As one who is in the Lord Jesus, I am fully convinced that no food[2][[14] Or that nothing] is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean.

15 If your brother is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother for whom Christ died.

16 Do not allow what you consider good to be spoken of as evil.

17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,

18 because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men.

19 Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.

20 Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble.

21 It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.

22 So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves.

23 But the man who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.
Reply:i don't know
Reply:According to God, our bodies are our temples, and we should treat them as such. Selling skin care products is simply helping people take care of their temples. It's up to the person buying the products not to take it too far into obsession.
Reply:It's not wrong to sell something to people that will help them.

It depends on how you sell it to them, some salespeople will lie or stretch the truth to get someone to buy their products so they can make as much money as they can.
Reply:Go for it.
Reply:Whoa!! I think you are looking way too far into things. I know where you're coming from as far as vanity goes but I don't think selling skin products is wrong. We are supposed to respect our bodies...sooooo go for it ;)
Reply:In Islam, this has the secondary importance and has no reason to discuss if it made of good ingredients such as no animal fat etc.

If these products have good, indisputable ingredietns there is no harm in using that but as I said this matter is of secondary importance.

Allah the Almighty says; we have made the human in his best suited shape.

If we are already good in shape then why should we thnik of these artificial things. The best thing is to worship Allah the Almighty with the core of heart, this will give us beauty of face and heart even.
