Bollywood?

Please tell me everything you can about Indian cinema especially Hindi CInema (Bollywood.) My specific question asks why fair skin is so prevalent in Indian movies. Also, don't you think the name "Bollywood" is a terribly poor name to call the film industry? It sounds like it's copying Hollywood. Why don't they start calling it Mollywood since Bombay's name change? Why don't they even call it The Mumbai Film Industry because that is what Hollywood does? Anyway, I just want to know everything about Indian cinema from plagiarism to change in costumes. Thanks!

Bollywood (india), Mollywood (bengali), Lollywood (pakistan), etc ,etc, - boring





British ruled india for a long time, their culture and ethnocentric views shaped the current beliefs of the asians there. White color is better, the whiter you are the "prettier" you are. So fair skin ppl get more opportunities in society, be it in movies, wedding proposals, job prospects, etc.





Indian movie industry is the biggest in the world. They churn out quit a LOT of movies in a year, 1/2 not worth seeing at all. They focus more on quantity then quality apparently. There is also LOT of plagiarism, every move is almost a copy of american movies. The God-Father is copied word for word and action/imitation per action so much that it's sickening to see it. Also, They recently got sued for copying Will Smith's "Hitch" movie so i think american movie industry is starting to fight back now against this plagiarisms.





The theme is almost the same in every single movie. girl falls in love with guy, girl parents disapprove, big fight, girl-guy end up together at end, happy ending. They also starting to copy US industry now in making Muslims as the bad guys in the movies, something you would never see 5-10yrs ago.
Reply:hi.....i think i can answe some of ur questions(though not all!).......firstly,i think that fair skin is prevalent in bollywood because this industry is basically dominated by the north india,so it is obvious dat the fairer ppl would be given more preference......and as regards plagiarism let me tell you that this concept is quite new to industry since it is only recently dat bollywood has started copying from other movies(mainly from movies of the west,south india,bengal,etc.).this might be because the directors might have run out of ideas!!....but this was not the case earlier when film makers were more creative %26amp; had less of the copying mentality.as for da costumes, they have become more westernised(%26amp; vulgur!) since da past few decades as bollywood is desperately tryin 2 copy hollywood in terms of costumes.one advantage of bein part of da bollywood is dat one is paid huge amount of money! however,da acting skills of actors has not really undergone a change as they r focusing only on looks(%26amp; exposure!)instead of acting!.........i think dat wud be enopugh %26amp; if u wanna know more thn just mail me......hope this info helps u.....bye.

All the films must contain a lot of songs in it.


The industry is a mail dominated one.


Cold wars are common between stars.


Actors are mostly overpaid.


Unfortunately Shahrukh Khan who knows nothing of acting is called the Kng of Bollywood.


He is as stupid as the name Bollywood.


Though the singers play a very important role but they still don't get the attention they deserve.
Reply:Bollywood is known as the Indian film Industry. It's the LARGEST film industry in the entire world. Each year, they produce a massive amount of movies.


Alot of stars are'nt dark, they have very light brown skin.





Bollywood was given to them by the western media(hollywood), and some of the stars do not like the word, and get offended when they are called Bollywood actors. They say it's a way of mocking them. Nobody has talked about changing the name of Bollywood yet.





If you mean that the Indian Cinema has plagiarism, then it does'nt! If you think they copy movies from Hollywood, they don't! The clothing they wear in movies depends on the movie itself. Of course you will see the traditional indian outfits such as saris being worn. Over the years, the fashion has changed just like any where else.





Now, to go into more detail, there are 2 top of the line actors here in bollywood, and they're both major, global superstars!


They are Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachan. Perhaps you've heard of them. Shahrukh Khan is known as the King of Bollywood because in MY opinion, I think he's the BEST actor in the entire world!! Amitabh Bachan is an older actor and has been around in movies for a long time! Shahrukh is known as India's brand embassador. They're both known throughout the world and have an enormous number of fans. Shahrukh Khan has OVER 3.5 BILLION fans worldwide. (yes, it's true!) And Amitabh, i don't know how many he has. Then, there's a really famous indian film director whose movies have all been super hits. They include Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Khabi Khushi Khabi Gham, Kal Ho Naa Ho, and Khabi Alveida Naa Kehena. His name is Karan Johar. One of the very famous fashion designers is Manish Malhotra.
